The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published a report showing high levels of a toxic chemical called (Belladonna) in some baby teething pills.
According to the analyzes carried out by the administration, it showed that the levels of this substance exceed the rate authorized on the packages, and the risk of high levels of this substance and its continuous exposure to children stems from seizures, continuous sleep, muscle weakness and skin flushing.
The administration recommended that parents avoid these products to protect their children.
Last year, 10 children died as a result of using these tablets, which contain a high percentage of the aforementioned chemical, so the administration tightened its control over all products on the market with the aim of protecting children.
The administration, in turn, stressed that it is possible to reduce teething pain in children without the need to use over-the-counter medicines, through simple home prescriptions.
The administration also stressed the need to go to the nearest medical center in the event that previous symptoms appeared as a result of taking teething tablets.
Here are some household steps that will help you relieve the pain of teething in your children:
- Rub baby’s gums with a clean finger or using the back of a cold spoon
- Giving the child the baby teething piece, provided that it is cold and not frozen
- The distraction of the child with other activities.
- In some cases, a doctor can be consulted about safe medications for teething.
